HSA Won the Title of Ryerson Challenge Cup 2004

HSA " the tournament favorites" won the final match of Ryerson challenge 2004 by defeating engineers by 5 runs. Hsa tigers presented a classic game which depicts their practice and enthusiasm for the game. Hsa won the toss and elected to bat. Engineers balling attack which is known as the strongest balling attack of the tournament didn't worked that much in the start. Hsa took full advantage of that and scored some crucial runs. After about 5 overs Engineers got hold of the game and managed to restrict Hsa to a score of 65 in 10 overs. In trying to chase a score of 65 , decent planning wasn't observed from the chasing team. Hsa did a superb balling spell to restrict Engineers of getting runs and thus got wickets in regular intervals. Abhi Manu the captain of Hsa did a nice captaincy and made some nice decisions in keeping the course of the match in their direction. Engineers however tried hard and managed to take the match till the last over and lost by 5 runs.

This final match was a classic entertainer , both teams fought very well and proved that they are the qualified teams for the final. However one has to win and other has to loose and winning side is always the better side.

Final Preview:" HSA Tigers vs Engineering Studs "

After some thrilling matches, breath taking moments and some stunning as well as close victories, this tournament has come down to the two best teams Engineers and HSA, one to one, in the final. There couldn't have been a better Final line up than this. With HSA Tigers predictably brushing the newcomers Nusrat Swades aside in their semi-final, and the Studs upsetting the massive favorites Business Eagles.
HSA had earlier started the tournament with a defeat by Engineers. In that game, Studs showed class and their fighting capabilities by upsetting the favorites. Engineers surely showed a knack of taking on big guns. HSA eventually recovered well from that situation and gave heavy defeats to all the teams coming their way. The great part about HSA's rise is that it is a new team, on its debut. But their wonderful set of players carry in them amazing loads of talent. Their players have been playing in many outdoor leagues. Here this tournament gives HSA another chance to prove their worth against Engineers in the finals.
Players to watch for HSA: Ankur Walia, Abhey Rahul, Nihit Dua, Abhimanyu Sharma
Engineers on the other hand had a shaky road to the final. They almost lost out their place in the semis to MSA Junoon. But, true to their fighting spirits, they came back against the best team in the tournament, Business Eagles - with experienced and talented players, and stormed into the finals. The great thing about the Engineering team is, that they have players who were part of the Former Champions team, BSA. These players know what it takes to win against big teams.

SEMI FINAL 2 HSA (Tigers) vs Nusrat (Swades)

HSA Tigers' continues their masterful run of victories and seals their spot in the final after defeating Nusrat comprehensively by 20 runs. HSA Tigers handled the Nusrat's bowling attack quit nicely. Tigers were looking for a big total to put on the board but manage to put 69 run in 10 overs. Considering 69 being a decent score to chase, Nusrat started their chase with the hope of winning the match .Their most reliable batsman Fahad however couldn't manage to live up to their expectations and lost his wicket quite tamely. Nusrat never recovered from the loss of his wicket. Their wickets fell in quite regular intervals. Tigers' bowlers bowled disciplined line and lengths. Stars for the game were HSA's Ankur , Ravi & Mannu. Tigers performance was not only at its best in the match but also they did a lot of home work which we saw from the way they played the match. A nicely timed innings and a disciplined bowling managed to take them into their first ever final of Ryerson Challenge Cup 2004.

SEMI FINAL 1 Engineering (Studs) vs Business (Eagles)

Studs gave a classic display of their fighting qualities and in a close match, were able to upset the mighty undefeated Business Eagles.
The game started on an enormous note with Studs winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Their opener Vikas Ambwani rocked Business Eagles support bowler, Murtaza, who was taken for 24 runs in his 2 overs. With a bowling line up of higher quality, it was a poor decision on part of Ovais Akbani, Captain Eagles, to give an extra over to the newcomer. After the flamboyant start, Studs lost their way during the middle overs to some tight decent bowling by Ovais Akbani and Owais Ashfaq. they both picked up one wicket each. The introduction of Salman Ali Khan created a big turn around as he was impressive in his bowling. He took 3 wickets and wrapped up the innings within 10 overs.
Business Eagles were expecting a flying start to their innings but Stud's strong bowling line up bowled with excellent line and length and made it harder for the Eagles batsmen to get runs. Because of the strong fielding and brilliant catches by the Studs ,Business lost wickets in regular intervals. Salman Ali Khan, the vice captain of Eagles, however had other ideas. He showed his class with the bat as well. He solely took the charge to the brilliant Stud's bowling when no one was there for his support. He hit some classic shots and did manage to take the match till the last over. But all went in vain as the Eagles lost the game by 5 runs. Salman was left not out on 21.
Farhan Tariq was declared man of the match with some nice hits and important wickets. Studs, with this victory, secures a spot in the final of the RCC 2004.

Match 12 Engineering (studs) vs ISCA (comrads)

Match was suppose to be played on schedule but ISCA because of the heavy defeats in past matches didn't showed up. since Engineering studs were ready for the game and Comrads didn't showed up so according to the tournament rules the points were awarded to studs with no extra bonus or run rate. how ever because of the previous better run rate and bonus points , studs managed the place in semi finals.

Match 11 Business (Eagles) vs BSA (Lions)

Business eagles once again showed the class. Eagles beat Lions comfortably. Lions never looked comfortable against the eagles. After winning the last match of pool B, Eagles not only reserved the place in semi finals but also become a strong contestant for the finals by going to the semi finals unbeaten.

Match 10 ISCA (comrads) vs HSA (Tigers)

Tigers made a historic win against Comrads. The strong batting line up of Tigers took charge against every single baller of Comrads. HSA Tigers managed to put a score of 124 in 10 overs which is not only a massive score on the board but also a record in Ryerson cricket history. Comrads started to chase the big total with no strategy and lost wickets quickly. After that stunning victory HSA Tigers cleared there way to the semi finals of the Ryerson Challenge cup 2004.

Match 9 MSA (Jazba) vs HSA (Tigers)

HSA Tigers got a great come back after defeating MSA Jazba with a comprehensive victory. Jazba's performance against Tigers no where resembles the performance against studs. Jazba did managed to put 49 on the board but that wasn't enough to contain Tigers. Tigers chased the score in 4.5 overs and came back into the tournament.

Match 8 MSA (Jazba) vs Engineering (studs)

Jazba sealed another victory in the second match against studs. Jazba not only improved batting line up but also targeted main ballers of studs to score runs and in the end managed to put a descent score of 56 runs. Studs batting line up failed right from the start and lost wickets in quick succession . however stud's middle order tried to give a fight and managed to take the match till the last over.

Match 7 MSA (Jazba) vs ICSA (Comrads)

Msa (jazba) started the points table with a victory. Jazba's strong balling attack never gave any chance to comrads to set a big total. comrads batting seemed to be in hurry to get runs and thus lost wickets quickly. Msa, not a very good batting side but was successful in cashing a small total set by comrads. Umair qureshi of msa took important wickets and batted brilliantly.

Match 3 Business Eagles vs Nusrat Swades

Possessing four Ryerson players, Business Eagles lived upto its pre-tournament favorites hype by putting up a strong all round performance. In a low scoring game, Eagles won the toss and scored a respectable total of 49 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 10 overs. Vice Captain Bishwajit Dey stroked a masterful innings of 27 not out to carry his bat throughout the innings. He was ably supported by Sharmil Khan. Nusrat began their chase of this acheivable total with two run outs. Both were inflicted by two brilliant pieces of fielding shown by Man of the Match Bushwajit Dey. His team carried on the tone set by him, and put up an excellent performance in the field. Nusrat were bowled out for 36 runs, in the penultimate over. Fast bowler Salman took 3 wickets for only 8 runs in 2.2 overs. He was ably supported by his fellow fast bowlers Ovais Akbani & Owais Ashfaq. Bishwajit, later on, was declared Man of the Match.

A close winning game resulted in Nusrat's way. Lions balling attack troubled the batsmen of Nusrat's team early on but they took advantage of the medium pacers and resulted in a decent score of 69 in 10 overs. Fahad iqbal smashed 28 with four 4s and a 6. Lions started with a low run rate but picked up the pace very well and managed to take the match till the last ball but lost by 2 runs.

The Ryerson Challenge Cup 2004 started on a brilliant note, with Engineering Studs crushing the pre-tournament favorites HSA Tigers by 4 wickets in the opening match. Tiger's strong batting line was dismissed in regular succession and ended up on 54 runs in 10 overs. A far cry from their earlier performances in the warm-up games leading to the Cup. Their star batsman Ankur stuck around for 9 overs to score only 8 runs! Nihit top scored for the Tigers with a fighting 25 not out. None of the other batsmen could provide Nihit with any support. Studs' pace duo of Farhan and Vikas shared 4 wickets between themselves. Farhan was specially brilliant with his right arm pacers, as he picked up 2 wickets for only 9 runs in his 3 overs. Meanwhile Studs' chase began in a disastrous fashion. Opening batsman Najim was bowled by Nihit for nought. At that time Man of the Match Farhan Tariq, who had earlier been impressive with the ball, took the attack to the Tiger's bowlers and took them for 19 runs. That paved the way for Fahad(14 not out) & Zeeshan(8 not out) to come in and play little cameos towards the end of Stud's innings. Both these batsmen powered Stud's home with more than 2 overs to spare.
